Job Description:
We are recruiting for a full-time genomics scientist. The scientist will report to the Assistant Director of Genomics Research to develop and improve new and existing assays and data analysis techniques. This is a dry lab position to support numerous R&D projects in both the wet lab and the clinical workflow.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of accurate, robust, and reproducible clinical analysis workflows for both germline and somatic assays
  • Ongoing assessment and incorporation of relevant public and commercial analytical tools and the development of novel methods as needed
  • Develop and use bioinformatics tools to process, analyze, and interpret genomic datasets resulting from NGS, array-based, and other technologies
  • Apply biostatistics to mine historic data for research
  • Improve quality and efficiency of genomic data analyses through implementation of standardized bioinformatics processes

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Genetics, Bioinformatics, or a related field
  • 2+ years relevant professional experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of next-generation sequencing, aCGH, capillary sequencing, and other modern genomics assays
  • Demonstrated experience with next-generation sequencing data and related tools (Samtools, GATK, etc.)
  • Proficiency in a major scripting language (e.g., Python, Perl)
  • Advanced knowledge of statistics and proficiency in R
  • Working knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar)
  • Working knowledge of command-line Linux and shell scripting
  • Knowledge of human clinical genetics preferred
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a small team
