Job Description:
Seeking a talented Scientist who is well-versed in analyzing human genetic data in rare diseases and will provide genetics and statistics support to all programs and phases in R&D. The position will be a member of the Data Science, Genomics, and Bioinformatics team that are focused on target identification/validation, patient identification/segmentation, genomics/genetics interpretation, creating/navigating disease landscapes, and integrating data across multiple domains including R&D data, clinical trials and health data, patient data, and business intelligence data.

The position requires close interaction with scientific teams to generate and test data-driven hypotheses, involving advanced experimental data and working on R&D projects that will make a real difference for patients with rare diseases. The candidate should have a solid foundation in statistics and genetics, a strong work ethic, and strong communication and collaborative skills.

The position requires understanding of the detailed scientific questions the drug teams are facing to ensure active contributions to their solution. These contributions involve the gathering of large scale and detailed scientific and clinical data from internal sources and the public domain, the manipulation, integration and statistical or empirical analysis of these data, including modeling and simulation. The successful candidate will have strong programming and statistical skills, a deep understanding of life-sciences databases and search engines, algorithm development, machine learning, visualization tools, and the ability to quickly create research-grade programs and scripts.

Principal Responsibilities

-Conduct statistical genetic analysis to understand genotype-phenotype relationships and identify genomic variants influencing clinical and biomedical traits; - support nominations of genes for functional follow-up and drug targeting.

-Present and discuss findings with project teams, support iterative solutions development and scientific research. -Integrate and summarize large-scale data and information across multiple scientific, translational, and clinical domains.

-Stay on the leading edge of Statistics, Data Sciences, search and data manipulation, analysis and visualization technologies. Stay updated on industry best practices and promote the adoption of novel approaches and methods in the field within the R&D community.

-Communicates effectively with team members, experts and regulatory authorities.

Qualifications:

-Proven experience in Statistics, Human genetics, and Computational Biology in the life sciences field.

-Broad understanding of the biotech/pharmaceutical industry and supporting scientific, translational, and clinical platforms/domains.

-Knowledge of next generation sequencing statistical analysis (QC metrics, analysis of rare variation).

-Experience using large-scale phenotype and genetic data.

-Knowledge of experimental design principles.

-Knowledge of statistical genetics software (PLINK, etc.).

-Expertise in family and haplotype analysis.

-Deep understanding of algorithms, data processing, and visualization.

-Experience processing and analyzing large multivariate data sets.

-Experience with algorithm development, data mining, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

-Programming skills in scripting languages such as Perl, Python, or pipelining tools.

-Experience in using R/Matlab/SAS or similar data analysis application.

-The qualified applicant must also be flexible, well-organized, and have the ability to work well under pressure.

-Excellent communication and presentation skills with specific experience in cross functional collaborations.

-Problem solving and creativity skills.

Education:
