Job Description:
Seres Therapeutics is seeking talented, highly-motivated Scientists and Computational Biologists to play a key role in the company’s Ecobiotic® therapeutics discovery programs in infectious, metabolic, and inflammatory disease. The successful candidates will work intimately with research teams across the organization to translate critical insights in the field of the human microbiome into therapeutic leads. The successful candidates will leverage systems biology and comparative genomic approaches to identify the ecological and functional microbial signatures of health and disease states across multiple disease indications. The candidates will be innovative and able to independently make novel contributions to discovery efforts and the development of methods to elucidate key host-microbiome interactions as they relate to states of disease and health. Key Responsibilities: • Analyze and interpret internal and external ‘omic data sets to identify microbial and functional ecology correlates of disease in target indications • Leverage existing and develop innovative analytical approaches to efficiently identify and prioritize for screening testable Ecobiotic® lead candidate hypotheses from complex preclinical and clinical data sets • Maintain current awareness of emerging approaches and methods in microbiome genomic and systems biology analyses and provide expert support to cross-disciplinary project teams • Keep abreast of scientific literature and interact with internal and external scientists to integrate biological insights into lead characterization and screening efforts • Contribute to the development of the company’s intellectual property estate Requeriments • Ph.D. or Masters in microbial genomics, computational biology, microbiology, or other related scientific field with 3+ years of relevant work experience in bioinformatics and/or statistical analysis of genomic data sets • Demonstrated ability to analyze high-dimensional biological data sets, and to be a primary contributor to the design and execution of metagenomic, transcriptomic, or metabolomic experiments and analyses for the study of microbial systems • Experience with microbiome data analysis and/or functional prediction of microbial systems using pathway analysis preferred • Demonstrated proficiency in at least one analytical language (e.g. R or Matlab) and/or programing skills in one or more languages (preferred: Python, Perl, or C++) • Proficiency in UNIX/Linux development environment • Experience developing analytical workflows for transcriptomic or metabolomics data sets a plus • Familiarity with machine learning methods for model development and prediction a plus • Experience in SQL database management and queries a plus • Must be able to work both independently and collaboratively in fast-paced development environment with competing priorities
