Job Description:
SRA is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our new program in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) which will make genomics data available to the worldwide scientific community on the Cloud using API and world renowned Google Genomics technology. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-scale systems to store, standardize, retrieve, and analyze large-scale cancer genomics data and metadata, with APIs such as RESTful Web services and JSON.
The successful candidate will closely interact with other scientists on the team and cancer researchers worldwide in understanding the data, workflows, and analysis of the data. You will use Agile development methodology and work in collaboration with other software engineers from Institute for Systems Biology based remotely in Seattle, WA. In this role, you will be implementing the creation of a new enterprise system to run on the cloud for cancer genomics, using both pre-existing Government data sets as well as data uploaded by the cancer research community.
Position is for full time employment with SRA and will be based in our Rockville offices, working Monday through Friday (part time telework from home is allowed with manager approval).
Key responsibilities will involve:
• Design and implement research systems for use in a high demand scientific environment; focusing on the API / User Interface development and cloud architecture / virtual machines (VMs).
• Communicate with both scientists and IT specialists to understand the data and how it will be used for cancer research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of many cancers.
• Make use of Google’s Cloud Platform and Google Genomics APIs for this pilot project
