Job Description:

The Biomarkers Research Initiatives in Mass Spectrometry (BRIMS) Center is a Thermo Fisher Scientific center of excellence that develops and promotes comprehensive and integrated mass spectrometry (MS)-based translational workflows that link early-stage discovery to next-stage quantitative verification of protein, peptide and small molecule biomarkers. Come join us on the journey!

We are hiring a highly motivated individual with experience in bioinformatics and statistical analysis of proteomics data. The Bioinformatics Scientist will develop software to automate translational proteomics workflows, statistical review of data as well as systems biology interpretation of the results. The Bioinformatics Scientist proposes and tests hypotheses, implements new ways of analyzing and visualizing mass spectrometry data and integrates spectral library content to optimize the discovery and verification workflows. The successful candidate will also be responsible for documenting various workflows of the research platform, implementing quality control procedures and providing scientific recommendations to improve the quality of the results. The Bioinformatics Specialist may also perform analysis of proteomic mass spectrometry data using proprietary software to support multiple therapeutic areas from target identification to biomarker discovery. This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:
• Develop bioinformatics software tools (including spectral libraries) interpreting and integrating large scale proteomics mass spectrometry datasets.
• Build rigorous statistical models for biomarker discovery and validation workflows.
• Integrate pathway analysis tools and protein-protein interaction networks into existing data analysis workflows.
• Optimize and automate data extraction and integration into sw platforms.
• Maintain and provide support for proprietary software tools.
• Document the Bioinformatics workflows, software and databases used in BRIMS Translational efforts.
• Propose and implement quality control and data quality monitoring procedures.
• Perform ad-hoc analysis to evaluate data quality or improve the understanding of the results.

Desired Skills and Experience:
• MS or PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, biostatistics or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in proteomics and Mass spec or related field.
• Experience with higher level programming languages (C#/.Net, C++). Proficient in statistical and scripting programming language, such as R, Perl.
• Expertise in developing algorithms and applications for statistical analysis, pattern recognition, machine learning, data mining and visualization of large scale proteomics mass spectrometry data.
• Previous experience working with pathway analysis, protein interaction network software will be a plus.
• Experience in operation of Orbitrap type mass spectrometers a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with research scientists.
• Excellent oral/written communication skills
• The position is located in Cambridge, MA
