As a Senior / Associate Principal Scientist, Bioinformatics, Oncology in Waltham, MA you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives. IMED (Innovative Medicines and Early Development) focuses on scientific advances in small molecules, oligonucleotides and other emerging technologies and drug discovery platforms across our focus areas. The Oncology Bioinformatics group work within cross-disciplinary drug project teams throughout the discovery and translational pipeline, driving new target discovery, pre-clinical and clinical research. The global group, currently 12 full time positions plus graduates and post-docs, spans the UK and US. - Performing innovative analytical research delivering actionable hypotheses to our portfolio.
- Designing and influencing our immune-oncology strategy.
- Leading and growing our respective collaborative network in Boston and the US.
- Mentoring junior scientists to effectively support our portfolio.
- Working closely with bioscience and translational science teams to understand where bioinformatics approaches can best impact their scientific and technical challenges.
- Enhancing a bioinformatics toolkit enabling our scientific community to maximise value from available public and proprietary data.
- Finding new ways of interpreting, modelling and finding meaningful patterns in complex mutli-omic and phenotypic data.
Requirements
Essential Requirements:- A relevant PhD; or a bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of relevant training/experience.
- Scientific emphasis in oncology or immunology.
- Technical emphasis in bioinformatics, computational biology or data science.
- An additional 3 or more years applied experience in biotech, pharma, or drug discovery/translational research.
- An enthusiasm to explore non-traditional approaches to bring big data together in biologically meaningful ways.
- A thorough understanding of the contribution of bioinformatics to drug discovery.
- Deep understanding of the biological systems and signaling involved in human disease.
- A high-quality publication record representing valuable contributions to scientific projects.
- A collaborative spirit, and strong external reputation and scientific network.
- Technical expert in DNA-sequencing, ‘omic and phenotypic data analysis and interpretation.
- Expert programming in R and Python.
- Skilled in effective communication of complex data to a non-expert.
- Strength in mathematical /systems /modeling /machine learning based techniques.
- Experience harnessing data from: RWE; single cell platforms; real-time platforms.
- Expertize analyzing both somatic and germline genetics.
- Harnessing relational and unstructured data.
- Development of interactive computational tools.
