Job Description:
The NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (GSTFT) and King’s College London (KCL) are seeking a full time Senior Bioinformatician to provide support to programmes of research in our Genomic Medicine Research Theme. This theme aims to translate insights from medical genetics and genomics into the clinic. It comprises a multidisciplinary team of experimental and computational researchers closely aligned to academic research groups in the KCL Division of Genetics and Molecular Medicine. You will contribute to data processing and analysis of large complex and integrated data sets, encompassing genomics and clinical and pathological information. Specifically, large-scale genomic datasets (whole exome and whole genome sequencing data and transcriptome sequencing data sets from tissues of interest) and phenotypic datasets, including those from national projects including the Genomics England 100,000 Genomes Project, UK BioBank and East London Genes and Health project, will be used to establish relationships and mechanisms through which genetic variation contributes to human disease phenotypes. You will have a PhD (mathematics/bioinformatics or genetics/related field with significant computational analysis) and a strong background in mathematics and statistics including expertise using scientific software packages such as MATLAB and R. Excellent skills in programming (desired languages: Python, Perl, C/C++, Java), data visualization and machine learning are also essential. The post will be based on the Guy’s hospital campus; however, the post holder must be prepared to work at any additional or different location either on an on-going or temporary basis after due consultation and work flexible hours if the service requires. The level of the appointment will depend on the qualifications and track record of the successful candidate. Interviews will be held week commencing Monday 23rd October 2017. This vacancy will close on 08th October 2017 at midnight.
