Job Description:
Microbiotica is seeking a talented and highly motivated Senior Bioinformatician to join its core scientific team of microbiologists and in vivo biologists. The successful candidate will have access to large scale genomic datasets, cutting edge analysis methods and will be exposed to unique challenges. The role holder will also play a key role in building and innovating the scientific programme.

The role holder will be required to develop the bioinformatics analysis capability in close collaboration with the other members of research team; contribute to the development and maintenance of the bioinformatics pipelines applied to metagenomics data analysis and regularly evaluate the new bioinformatics tools and methods published.

The successful candidate will be based in Microbiotica at the Wellcome Genome Campus, Cambridge, UK, with laboratories on site integrated into the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. We are now recruiting to build the scientific team and have exciting opportunities for highly motivated scientists who wish to help us build the company.

Candidate Specifications:

Essential requirements for this post include:

• PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or a related discipline/ or equivalent experience.

• Ideally 5 years of experience in bioinformatics and/or biological data analysis.

• Deep knowledge and experience with high throughput sequencing data analysis.

• Experience in programming and algorithm development.

• Experience in database design and implementation.

• Good knowledge and experience using UNIX/LINUX environments and distributed computational systems.

Desirable requirements for this post include:

• Understanding of microbial biology, genetics and/or gastrointestinal microbiota

• Experience with in depth analysis of microbial genomics, clinical and functional data.

• Experience with the analysis of metagenomics sequencing data and previous knowledge in bacterial genome annotation will be a real plus.

• Understanding of statistics.

• Proactivity and reactivity to answer the needs of the different company programs and projects with ad hoc bioinformatics analysis.

• Natural sense of organisation, team work, as well as sharing know-how and expertise in a multidisciplinary environment.
