Job Description:
The focus of this position is to plan, implement and deliver various bioinformatics and genomic research and development projects . Project milestones will be set in accordance with the business unit priorities as defined in the yearly operating plan. The role is accountable for delivery of all agreed project milestones, and will be required to meet agreed deadlines and budgets specified for individual projects. The role incorporates key decision-making for and regular timely reporting of project progress, and period-by-period budget-line monitoring for the projects in question. The role also calls for keeping relevant in the scientific appropriate fields, which should be achieved through attending relevant conferences, liaison with external consultants and keeping current on the appropriate scientific literature. It will be necessary for the jobholder to communicate on both technical science background and project progress at periodic intervals potentially including to presentation of talks and written updates to business unit and segment management teams. The role will also support technical teaching throughout the R&D team to continually raise the functional capability of all team members as appropriate. What You Will Be Doing Principal Accountabilities •Delivery of research and product development projects to meet the agreed schedule from the project portfolio and strategic plan. Manage projects according to basic principles of delivering outcomes at or above the required specification in a timely manner and on budget. Projects outputs to be backed by appropriately validated and reported science. •As an expert in the field of bioinformatics, apply, evaluate and deploy bioinformatics solutions to ensure effective and efficient data management and analysis capability, for the successful delivery of business critical projects. •Report project plans, progress updates and outcomes to the management teams. Prepare technical papers for external and internal peer review and presenting science to external audiences as appropriate. •Developing and maintaining an ongoing understanding of the broader business setting for projects and their outputs. Adapting projects and timelines according to changes in the business and commercial environment. •Responsible for understanding the potential regulatory and legal implications for potential product enhancements or new product delivery and ensure compliance to appropriate standards for all new materials produced •Liaise with production, marketing and sales teams in order to ensure efficient translation of R&D activity into subsequent commercialization phases. •Deploy new or existing systems to production •Perform maintenance and operational activities such as generating reports, correcting data •Document business process conversion procedures, convert data and verify results •Create/update system or user documentation •Apply principles, processes and tools of quality management to work •Follow IT development processes such as change management, configuration management, security compliances What You Need for this Position Key Functional Skills/Knowledge -Have understanding of science relating to the specific areas in which the projects are being developed, e.g. canine molecular genomics and Bayesian statistical methods -Have a good technical understanding of the principles by which Diagnostic products are developed and operate -Ability to inform colleagues and business unit managers through targeted communication methods -Be able to assimilate and understand new areas of knowledge quickly and to apply that knowledge to the projects undertaken -Be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, shifting emphasis as needs required by business priorities -Ability to effectively co-ordinate interdependent multi-centre projects -Be able to develop and maintain strong and productive working relationships with external suppliers over long distances -Ability to work with minimum supervision -Ability to troubleshoot problems and implement solutions quickly and effectively -Ability to communicate work clearly and effectively in both written and oral formats -Solid understanding of business best practice in the areas of budget management, commercial buying, and project management and reporting -Excellent analytical skills -Bioinformatics Skills -Complex Genetics Analysis oSingle Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) mining oPopulation genetics knowledge oPopulation genetics inference oData handling and translation into various formats oHaplotype analysis oSignificance Tests oNCBI BLAST (algorithm knowledge and familiarity with application) -Programming Languages oJava and Perl experience preferred. oAbility to handle legacy code and reprogram accordingly preferable. -Bioinformatics Application knowledge: Matlab, MySQL, Structure -Technology knowledge: AI, Algorithm design and optimization, Modeling, Statistical Modeling, Probabilistic tests, Fault tolerant system design, Systems Engineering, Networking, TCP/IP, Architecture design, Web technologies -Operating System knowledge: Windows, Unix, Linux Key Experiences -Solid programming experience in Java,C++ and scripting skills Perl/Python XSLT and SQL. -Strong Statistical data analysis skills. Algorithm development experience is a plus. -Strong Windows / Linux scripting skills. -Strong verbal and written communication. -Strong Graphics design skillset; Working knowledge on Adobe products preferred. -Experience of project planning, management, delivery and reporting -Strong scientific and technical background, preferably in bioinformatics -Demonstrated experience of Research & Development activities such as translating basic research, defining processes, measuring progress and quality assurance of work -Experience of project delivery in business setting -Working with contract research organizations and external academic and industrial collaborators Required Education Must be educated to graduate level in a relevant scientific discipline.
