Position Summary
The Senior Bioinformatics Analyst will lead the development, testing and maintenance of the IPM analytical pipeline to support genomic testing based on whole exome sequencing and other tests. Tasks include identifying and benchmarking analytical components, integrating such components with rest of IPM infrastructure. Position involves close collaboration with the rest of the precision medicine bioinformatics lab team as well as other teams such as clinical team and pathology team.
Position Activities
Implement pipeline for detecting and annotating mutations from single patient whole-exome sequencing datasets.
Implement primary processing pipeline and quality control, run IPM pipeline on all new samples.
Implement procedures for disaster recovery, resuming failed jobs, implementation of Docker containers.
Explore computing platform such as cloud vendors, perform benchmarking, implement data sharing.
Supervise bioinformatics analysts and student.
Develop novel algorithms and tools for high throughput data analysis.
Responsible for biostatistical analysis and data interpretation for large data sets.
Perform genomic analyses including mutation analyses, integrate datasets, generate figures summarizing results and key findings.
Work closely with bioinformatics team to define specifications for information systems, relational datasets, and sequencing analysis.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
BS in computer science, bioinformatics or biotechnology. Bioinformatics analysis expertise as demonstrated by multiple published papers. Three (3) years of related work experience. Excellent programming expertise in C, C++, Java or Python.
Highly Desired Requirements
Master’s Degree in computer science, quantitative biology, bioinformatics or biotechnology.
Skill and Abilities
Excellent communication skills. Excellent understanding of biology and biomedicine. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and overlapping deadlines.
