Freenome is looking for bioinformatics engineers to build out analytical pipelines responsible for transforming data from our wetlab into high-quality inputs to our machine learning systems. You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of engineers and scientists as we build reliable, maintainable, and innovative solutions for bioinformatics software systems. Responsibilities:
- Develop and deploy software systems that can reliably process petabytes of genomic data on a distributed, cloud-based compute cluster
- Participate in peer code and design review while following engineering best practices
- Collaborate with operations, dry and wet lab scientists, product managers, and other engineers to solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment
- Build tools and interfaces for both the infrastructure and the data
- Work with machine learning and computational biologists to help generate genomic feature generation pipelines to be fed into machine learning algorithms
- Assist in generation of assay quality control metrics
- Take a mindful, transparent and humane approach to your work and your interactions with others
- 5+ years of experience as a part of a software development team
- A proven track record of developing scientific analysis pipelines in a production environment.
- BS, MS or Ph.D. in computer science, bioinformatics, or related field, or equivalent work experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Deep knowledge of Python
- Previous experience with bioinformatic pipelines and familiarity with common bioinformatic NGS tools like BWA and GATK and file formats like fastq, BAM, bed, and vcf.
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform or AWS
- Knowledge of distributed computing fundamentals
- Background in probability and statistics
