Job Description:
As a designated partner (key contact) for a TA (Immunology &Respiratory, Cardiometabolic, or Cancer Immunology), he/she brings together the scientific questions faced by the TA with bioinformatics capabilities internally and externally to expand understanding of disease biology and bring novel therapies to patients. In this role, the Senior Principal Scientist interacts with TA leadership to align with the TA strategy, and coordinate with Comp Bio experts, IT, and other functions globally to ensure the TA bioinformatics needs are met. Additionally, as an expert, he/she provides bioinformatics expertise and leadership to achieve a position of First-in-Class or Breakthrough projects. In this capacity, the Senior Principal Scientist participates in analytical activities directly.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop the bioinformatics-specific components of the TA strategy, work with TA leadership to understand the gaps and needs in new therapeutic concepts and PoCP plans (biomarkers), and drive the strategic use of bioinformatics and translational data to advance TA priorities
  • Ensure all portfolio projects have defined and prioritized bioinformatics activities, and provide matrix oversight of bioinformatics experts on TA projects to ensure completion and quality of bioinformatics activities Ensure all portfolio projects have defined and prioritized bioinformatics activities, and provide matrix oversight of bioinformatics experts on TA projects to ensure completion and quality of bioinformatics activities
  • Represents bioinformatics needs and priorities of the TA to the global computational biology (CB, communicates/translates TA strategy into CB organization to ensure proper resources and capabilities
  • Performs high quality bioinformatics analysis in areas of own expertise, deliver results to TA project teams that addresses the gaps and impact team decisions, and contribute to other project teams where the expertise is appropriate and in need

Candidate will be hired at level commensurate with experience :
  • TA-specific biology expertise, as well as drug discovery knowledge desired.
  • Proven track record of designing, leading, and managing complex computational research projects.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and methods and high-level expertise in at least two (GSEA, GeneGO, CBDD, Cytoscape, Reactome, GWAS, eQTL, text mining and machine learning).
  • Proficiency using R, Shiny and Bioconductor packages, as well as Python.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
  • Provides expert-level scientific and bioinformatics expertise within the area(s) of biology and human disease addressed by the TA.
  • Knowledge of current key datasets, therapeutic landscape and demographic/epidemiological considerations within TA is required.
  • Ensure with all applicable data protection and security requirements for research and clinical data.
  • Ensure all data, results, and code meet organizational requirements for quality.
Senior Principal Scientist Requirements:
  • Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Bioinformatics OR Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Biology, Chemistry or Biostatistics with a postdoc in Bioinformatics OR other degrees with equivalent work experience
  • Seven (7) or more years of relevant experience in drug discovery or biomedical research environment after completing a doctoral degree, with at least three (3) years’ experience in drug discovery.
Principal Scientist Requirements:
  • Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Bioinformatics OR Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Biology, Chemistry or Biostatistics with a postdoc in Bioinformatics OR other degrees with equivalent work experience
  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience in drug discovery or biomedical research environment after completing a doctoral degree, with at least three (3) years’ experience in drug discovery.
Eligibility Requirements:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
