Job Description:
The Biochemistry department has an opening for a Senior Research Associate position. The candidate will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Raja Mazumder. He or she will be managing the research portfolio, development of tools, and knowledge bases. They will work full time on the project management of various projects and will interface with key stakeholders in the scientific community. They will also act to guide the development and ensure quality of software, tool, and database produced by Dr. Mazumder’s lab. They will need to operate in the role of project manager, requiring very little to no supervision. This position requires a strong understanding of bioinformatics principals, as the stakeholders they will be interacting with are using and developing bioinformatic tools. This position also requires an understanding of how biological data is represented and processed computationally; familiarity with the command line interface; familiarity with accessing common data and knowledge bases; the use of Linux, Python; and, a very strong understanding of JavaScript Object Notation.

Duties include:

-Regular use of Software, tool and databases for DNA alignment, DNA QA&QC, protein alignment and characterization, and metagenomic analysis

-Maintenance and update of knowledge-base datasets for the following: BioMuta, BioExpress, HIVE -Project Management

-Organize regular lab meeting and oversee the writing of progress reports required for various contracts.

-Creating, presenting and discussing the various progress reports with Dr. Mazumder and the any key project stakeholders.

-Work with data base developers on tool and data base development.

-This position performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a master’s degree and 3 years of direct experience in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience in bioinformatics

-One or two years of experience working in a laboratory setting is required.

-Able to work independently, meet deadlines, write monthly progress reports, and present the progress reports to key stakeholders.
