Senior Research Scientist
Thomson Reuters is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Ph.D. scientist with training in molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry or genetics with 1-4 years of hands-on experience in disease research (preferably, oncology).
This person will join our multi-disciplinary team which provides data analysis, curation and annotation, text mining, ontology development, disease pathway reconstruction services to pharmaceutical companies and academic institutions. This person will be involved in technical presentations of Thomson Reuters products and services for company customers, development of research plans, management and delivery of custom service projects.
The position requires strong knowledge of modern disease biology, both the theory and wet lab experimentation. The position also requires ability to work independently as well as strong writing and presentation skills. Experience with omics datasets and bioinformatics skills are desirable. Hands-on experience with biological databases and an ability to quickly read and comprehend scientific literature is essential. This person should be able to work with an international team in a collaborative environment.
Essential Day-to-Day Responsibilities Include
- Interactions with scientists and IT personnel of Thomson Reuters and clients (pharmaceutical companies and academic institutions);
- Demos and presentations for customers;
- Proposal and article writing;
- Work on service projects related to
- curation of scientific information (e.g. disease biomarkers, reconstruction of disease pathways), text mining, ontology development,
- data analysis projects (interpretation of results of bioinformatics analysis of omics data);
- Participation in scientific conferences.
- PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, or related fieldRequired Skills (Must have), Necessary industry experience and associated number of years of experience:
- Specifically, position requires thorough understanding of biology, including disease biology (preferably, oncology) is required as appropriate for a PhD level scientist;
- hands-on expertise in disease biology (e.g. work with disease models);
- strong presentation and writing skills;
- an ability to read and understand high volume of scientific information (such as notebook entries, preclinical and clinical studies protocols, scientific papers, and data files);
- ability to use, at an advanced level, Excel program, an ability to be able to learn other data processing software quickly, an ability to communicate with scientists and IT personnel. Must be familiar with Excel (advanced user);
- proficient in scientific terminology in chemistry and biology; have excellent communication skills;
- be independent;
- have high work ethics to maintain client's data security. Desired Skills (Nice to have in addition to the Required Skills), necessary industry experience and associated number of years of experience:
- Some sort of clinical/study design experience is a plus, so is familiarity with SAS, JMP, Access or a similar data processing software;
- knowledge of Thomson Reuters products
