Job Description:
At Synthetic Genomics, Inc., we are dedicated to developing and commercializing genomic-driven solutions to address global challenges. We are currently seeking a Senior Scientist to join our fast-growing, dynamic and collaborative team in La Jolla, CA.
Successful candidates for the Senior Scientist position will work with senior leadership to develop and implement genome engineering technologies and immune functional assays in a cross-disciplinary R&D team in collaboration with industrial and academic partners, establishing and advancing project goals, and ensuring timely completion of project objectives; work effectively with the scientific team members to formulate and execute integrated research plans; effectively conduct and manage experimental data analysis and interpretation, and make appropriate recommendations based on the results; provide written and oral reports on progress as necessary and assist in the development of an intellectual property strategy, including the development and submission of patent applications; supervise and guide the professional development of direct reports; ensure that all company policies and safety practices are followed.
Requirements
Required Skills:
-Experience and demonstrated excellence at the bench conducting research and development in a team and structured program environment.
-Demonstrated bench scientific leadership and R&D experience in cell biology and immunology.
-Excellent creativity, technical decision-making and trouble shooting skills.
-Document research in laboratory notebooks in accordance with company policies.
-Analyze/present data and articulate supported conclusions in written/oral reports.
-Work in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
-Perform comprehensive literature reviews and summarize as required.
-Consistently demonstrate initiative for timely completion of projects and tasks.
-Ability to quickly obtain command of and utilize pertinent scientific literature.
-Excellent organizational and communication skills.
-Understanding of intellectual property strategy and processes.
Required Experience:
-Ph.D. and postdoctoral training in immunology, cell biology or related discipline.
-At least 7+ years of industrial (biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical) experience overseeing complex projects.
-Direct, hands-on experience with, and extensive knowledge of, cell-based immune functional assays, flow cytometric analysis and isolation of transformed and primary cells, mammalian cell culture and gene transfer, molecular (DNA/RNA/protein) assays and relevant statistical analysis.
-Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.
-Working knowledge of immunology and transplantation biology highly desirable.
-Experience managing and collaborating with partners across a range of technical backgrounds, expertise and geographic locations strongly preferred.
-Familiarity with bioinformatics desirable.
-Demonstrated ability to understand and successfully integrate and apply scientific literature, research data and technical input, combined with use of novel approaches, to meet program goals.
