The Sr. Scientist of Bioinformatics will be responsible for designing proteomic studies and analyzing complex data sets in a collaborative environment to support development of our lead product, Xpresys Lung. Knowledge of statistics, software tools, database queries and algorithm development will be applied to development and validation studies in support of laboratory and company objectives. The laboratory operates under CLIA and CAP regulations, which require robust documentation of study design and results. - Development, execution and reporting of statistical analysis plans
- Manage project(s) or a specific aspect of a project, and is accountable for meeting established deadlines
- Design and evaluate scientific experiments appropriate to project objectives
- Participate in writing project updates and reports, proposals, scientific articles, and patent applications
- Maintain current knowledge of research literature and activity in bioinformatics and computational biology and apply state-of-the-art concepts and technologies
- Consult scientific literature to develop knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories
- Implement technological or scientific advances that benefit the interdisciplinary departments
- Develop software to automate data analysis and data mining
- Strong collaboration and partnership with inter-disciplinary teams in laboratory, informatics, and QA/QC
- Coordinate and lead efforts for cross functional testing and/or integration tasks on a project basis
- Propose new project ideas and participate in new project proposal meetings
- Must possess a Master in Science degree (Ph.D. preferred) in bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics, or engineering
- Must have a minimum of 3 years of industrial work experience participating within a team-oriented environment; experience working in a regulated environment is preferred
- Strong programming skills and proficiency with script languages (such as PERL), statistical software (R or Matlab) and computing languages (C, C++ or Java) are required
- Extensive knowledge of statistics is required
- Experience with Excel, data management and data mining on public and private databases is required
- Must have a record of hands-on experience analyzing large-scale genomic, transcriptomic and/or proteomic datasets
- Must have ability to embrace the importance of teamwork and be able to operate comfortably in an innovative, start-up environment
- Must have good interpersonal and communications skills; able to work effectively with variety of people in a diverse workforce; adaptable to changing work requirements; able to multi-task; high degree of professional integrity
