Job Description:

The Senior Scientist, Metabolic Engineering & Systems Biology – focus bioinformatics and data analysis - is a key role within Intrexon’s Industrial Products Division (IPD). This individual will be responsible for implementing automated systems for data gathering and data analysis, using and writing statistical tools to enable data analysis and pattern recognition, supporting a developing strain and protein engineering pipeline, and providing biologically meaningful results and conclusions from large datasets. The candidate will have a strong command of current bioinformatics software packages for next generation sequence analysis (& RNA seq), proteomics analysis, Design of Experiment planning and analysis, and protein engineering. Proficiency in scripting languages such as R, C/C++, PERL, SQL is highly desired, as is familiarity with Oracle and other database structures. Familiarity with molecular biology and microbial physiology concepts is a requirement.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Contribute to the development of a bioinformatics pipeline to support Metabolic Engineering & Systems Biology platform approaches. Be a key member of a team that will support IPD’s metabolic engineering and strain development, encompassing a broad array of microbial hosts Work closely with other IPD teams and external research and commercial partners as applicable to support technology transfer and collaborative projects.
Prepare technical reports and make presentations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

PhD (5+ years experience), MS (7+ years experience) or BS (10+ years experience) in genetics, molecular biology, microbiology, chemical engineering, bioinformatics, computer science or a related field.
Experience in establishing a bioinformatics pipeline for strain engineering, protein engineering, statistical data analysis, and design of experiment approaches.
Proven track record of accomplishments, preferably in the bio-industrial, life sciences, pharmaceutical and chemical industries.
Experience with metabolic engineering for industrial product production.
