Job Description:
The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) brings together a diverse group of faculty who are committed to improving biomedical research and clinical care through the application of innovative technologies. The department is currently seeking a Senior Software Developer. The Senior Software Developer will be responsible for the analyses and interpretation of large high throughput biological data sets including but not limited to, expression, micro RNA, SNP, methylation and Next Gen sequencing technologies. Incumbent will collaborate with biomedical researchers in genomic, proteomics, imaging, bioinformatics and related disciplines and assume significant or primary responsibility for providing bioinformatics solutions for translational research. Incumbent will be a contact person for the bioinformatics requests to the CBS core and will oversee projects start to finish in addition to providing the analysis support. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to developing project plans, allocating resources, coordinating timelines, monitoring and documenting progress for multiple projects, statistical analysis, algorithm development, interpretation of results, software development including data portals, assist with publications and grant proposals. Incumbent will be responsible for evaluating and establishing project requirements and resources (including hardware, software, storage) and communicating results to investigators in a timely manner and for working on multiple projects and PIs. The Senior Software Developer must be able to multitask, develop priorities, work in a fast-paced collaborative environment and adapt to changing needs. The incumbent will also be responsible in training new bioinformatics analysts joining the team. Experience in software development in biotech or pharmaceutical industries is a plus. Education Required: Master's Minimum Related Experience Level Required: 5-6 years experience Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position: Five years of related experience in bioinformatics software development and large data systems data mining and analysis, and in-depth understanding of genomics and proteomics. Experience working with microarrays or complex biological data sets is required, as is fluency with basic statistical methods. Strong background in bioinformatics, computer science, biology or related discipline. Experience working with microarrays or complex biological data sets is required, as is fluency with basic statistical methods. Incumbent must have experience with computational analysis frameworks such as R or MATLAB, and experience with major public genomic databases such as GenBank, UniGene, Ensembl, Entrez and UCSC genome browser. Familiarity with bioinformatics tools like Bioconductor and Cytoscape is a bonus. Incumbent must have programming experience with Java, C/C++, Perl and must be familiar with the Unix operating system. Candidate must have an experience working with multiple PIs and handling multiple projects simultaneously. A successful candidate will have demonstrated success in scientific creativity, collaboration, and independent work.
