Position Description
The incumbent will support our rapidly expanding informatics division in developing high-throughput pipelines and large-scale data management systems. The ideal candidate will be a pragmatic team player responsible for ensuring software quality through development and execution of software test plans.
Job duties will include:
Collaborate with bio-informatics scientists, users, and stakeholders as requirements are being defined to provide input on usability and testability;
Review product design documentation to ensure that requirements stated are correct, unambiguous, and verifiable;
Define and execute test plans to ensure quality of production software;
Work with software engineers to efficiently identify and isolate software bugs;
Maintain bug-tracking system and ensure status is up to date on all issues;
Consult with product development to evaluate system interfaces, operational requirements, and performance requirements of overall system;
Define test methods and create test plans for new or updated software projects to determine if the software will perform accurately and reliably according to documented requirements as well as established standards under both normal and abnormal conditions;
Recommend design improvements or corrections to engineers throughout the development process;
Maintain effective communication with the project software engineers on project limitation, capability, performance requirement and hardware interface changes;
Execute test plans and create test reports to describe program evaluation, testing, and correction;
Create test tools that facilitate data gathering and test method execution.
Required Skills
BS with 5+ years of experience or MS with 3+ years of experience in Computer Science, computer engineering, or related field;
Experience working with genomic data is desirable;
Experience designing and executing test plans;
Ability to work independently to deliver quality data under tight deadlines;
Excellent communication skills and proven ability to work directly with customers (scientists) to assist them with data access and to resolve data delivery issues;
Experience working with very large datasets is a plus;
Ability to make decisions with incomplete information and produce results in a timely fashion;
Experience with agile programming techniques and QA in agile environments helpful;
Must be able to work in a fast-paced, start-up like environment.
