The Information Services Department is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, this is a full-time exempt position eligible for benefits. Reporting to the Applications Development Manager, the Senior Software Engineer will work closely with our Scientists, Researchers, and Administration to maximize the potential of their creative and innovative projects. Senior Software Engineers leverage their deep hands-on experience with development best practices and agile methodologies to produce high quality code. They also mentor and oversee the work of more junior developers. The Applications Development Team develops a broad range of software including web applications, desktop applications, APIs, and database centric applications. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Working with scientific research departments to meet the programming needs of scientists, researchers and engineers.
- Work on various Administrative programming projects.
- Work with both SQL and NoSQL databases and big data to support research objectives
- Ability to “own” projects and deliver within set timelines and due dates
- Contributes to architectural decisions related to applications in scope within the IS department and Institution
- Utilizes experience and research to bring new processes and methodologies to the organization
- Ability to multi-task, and show initiative and flexibility
- Provide quality output to meet project criteria
- A Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in web development using JavaScript, CSS, HTML5
- 3+ years of experience using, SQL and NoSQL databases
- Experience developing WordPress sites and plugins using PHP.
- Extensive experience using Django in an enterprise environment
- Experience programming in PHP and Python
- Experience building JSON based web APIs
- Experience using Git source control
- Experience on Semantic Web a plus
- Experience creating mobile apps also a plus
- Experience in Bioinformatics a plus
- Experience in continuous integration and delivery techniques a plus
