Job Description:
As a Systems Engineer for Illumina’s Array portfolio, you support customer facing software workflow solutions to provide a best in class, high throughput, end to end user experience for our healthy screening (human and Ag) and direct to consumer markets. You will be part of an innovative, dynamic, and adaptive organization supporting new product development teams as well as sustaining operations. By working directly with stakeholders (marketing, end-users, R&D scientists etc.) you will develop the requirements and design of custom software. You will be responsible for compiling relevant information related to product and process definition, analyzing business and compliance requirements, assessing risk of impact and procuring accurate information for use in software design and development process. You will also be responsible for prioritizing CAPAs and ECIs as well as coordinating the release activities for software launches.

All About You

Responsibilities:

For softwares including, but not limited, to custom content design, genetic variant analysis, automation control and LIMS:

  • Prepare and participate in requirements gathering meetings with Product Marketing and internal customers (like Tech Support, Illumina Concierge, etc.) for both short term feature needs but also long-term software evolution
  • Coordinate with Marketing, Bioinformatics, Assay Scientists and other multi-disciplinary teams within Illumina to build a clear picture of the product or feature being developed.
  • Collate platform level feature requests or marketing requirements (across SW platforms) and distill into complete set of formal, detailed software requirements specification ready to be used by development teams in an integrated fashion across the multiple SW platforms
  • Build high quality workflow and process-flow diagrams and other visualizations for communicating requirement scenarios and determining integration testing points
  • Manage requirements priority, changes and planning for future product versions in a scalable and sustainable design
  • Work in a collaborative team environment; accurately and fully describe user needs to software UX, development, automation engineering and testing team members
  • Work closely with Software test teams to assist in troubleshooting system issues and drive system design improvements
  • Conduct Release Readiness reviews, Milestone reviews and Business Go/No-Go reviews
  • Provide regular reports to stake-holders on project milestones and release progress.
  • Communicate release details and schedules to the Business and other related parties as required
  • Assist with coordinating the Go-Live activities including the execution of deployment plans and checklists
  • Assist with maintaining a release repository and managing key information such as build and release procedures, dependencies and notifications lists
  • Manage internal and external escalation channels for issues reported in the form of software bugs or CAPAs and ECIs and work with the development team to prioritize and manage the release of fixes
  • Drive overall project management such as Sprint and Release planning
  • Continually strive to ensure Array software lifecycle management process is best in class
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry or related discipline
  • At least 4-6 years working experience in a biotech software product development environment
  • Demonstrated excellence in working at a platform or process level on integrated multiple SW types to develop best in class user experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, for both technical and non-technical audience
  • High demonstrated proficiency in formalized requirements gathering and analysis methods and tools
  • Experience with driving and enhancing Software Development Life Cycle and Scrum methodologies
  • Experience with successful use of requirements tracking and modeling tools
  • High proficiency with Atlassian tools (Jama, Jira, Confluence)
  • Ability to multi-task, self-initiate, stay organized and incorporate feedback in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working with medical device software/FDA regulated products a plus
  • Experience driving cross-disciplinary development projects
