The Broad Institute's Scientific Computing Services (SCS) team is looking for engaged technologists to assist the Broad's scientists in their application of computation to find cures for human disease. This role supports Broad scientists by providing consultation on the application of computational and data resources available on site and in the cloud. This role supports Broad scientists by providing consultation on the application of computational and data resources available on site and in the cloud. The SCS team reports to the CIO, and is primarily responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships with the Broad's Scientific Community. OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
- Consults with scientific organizations and users about their computational goals and requirements
- Suggests appropriate solutions that meet institute requirements for security, supportability, and data protection
- Provides insight into best practices and methods for data analysis tasks
- Provides information to IT staff and leadership regarding scientific computation needs and appropriate resource-sharing approaches
- Manages scientific software and associated tools on the Broad Linux computing cluster
- Advises on available software tools and investigates and installs additional software packages as appropriate
- Maintain regular contact with consumers of computational services, acting as their partner in technology planning activities
- Act as Subject Matter Expert for several technology areas
- Manage technology deployment projects of moderate scope and size
- Participate in evaluation, prioritization, and resolution of reported issues
- Maintain domain-specific software collections and databases
- Evaluate requests for new software installations
- Help users automate routine repeated tasks through scripting or other means
- Assist in the development and delivery of user documentation and/or training
- Document administrative procedures and issue resolutions
- Perform off-hours work as required to accommodate production requirements or respond to high priority service requests
- Other tasks as required
- Bachelor's degree in biology, computer science or other technical or scientific discipline or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of related experience
- Understanding of fundamentals of TCP/IP, NFS, CIFS, Linux memory management, scheduling
