R&D S&E, Computer Science SEPrimary Job Duties
We are seeking an experienced bioinformatics researcher to be a key team member in a multidisciplinary research group focused in Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Disease, using ultrahigh-throughput sequencing technologies, molecular biology, analytical chemistry, and engineering to enable pathogen discovery, detection, characterization, and diagnosis, with a focus on emerging viral pathogens. Responsibilities will include the design and execution of collaborative and individual research efforts, technical leadership for bioinformatics research, and development of software systems to support both the management and analysis of sequence data. The candidate will be expected to work with scientific colleagues, collaborators, partners, and managers to define needs and priorities and to set strategic research directions.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Advanced technical degree or significant equivalent experience. Technical knowledge and competencies appropriate to the position. Thorough knowledge of and applied experience with scientific and engineering methods and with the discipline's standards for the ethical conduct of research. Thorough knowledge of and experience with designing, planning, and executing research, design, and development projects. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with implementing Sandia policies affecting research, design, and development activities, projects, or initiatives. Demonstrated ability to team across disciplines.Required
This position requires a PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, or a related scientific discipline. Early or mid-career candidates will be considered; the hiring level will depend upon the candidate¿s level of experience and qualifications. Other required qualifications include (1) a strong publication record; (2) demonstrated experience in proposal development and writing; (3) experience in the bioinformatics algorithms and software tools that are commonly used in the curation, assembly, and annotation of sequencing data sets; (4) familiarity with current- generation and emerging ultrahigh-throughput sequencing technology and software tools; (5) experience in software development and programming (e.g., C/C++, Perl, Python); (6) a demonstrated ability to work with a diverse multidisciplinary team to solve complex problems; and (7) a strong motivation to tackle science and technology challenges of national importance.Desired
Desired qualifications include familiarity with one or more of the following: molecular biology, microbiology, virology, genetics, and infectious-disease research. A track record of obtaining research funding through competitive grants proposal submissions is strongly desired.Requeriments :
