Job Description:
The candidate will perform laboratory research for a FDA-funded project related to whole-genome sequencing and genomic data analysis of foodborne microorganisms including pathogenic, spoilage, allergenic and toxin-producing agents, and assist in bioinformatics training to food industry's food safety personnel for genomic data analysis and submission. The successful candidate will co-author scientific publications and deliver presentations at scientific meetings under the leadership of the principal investigator and assist in communicating research findings to the sponsor and stakeholders. Education & Experience: PhD degree in Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Biology or related field that specializes in genomics or bioinformatics. Prior research experiences in molecular biology and foodborne microorganisms are highly desirable. Knowledge & Skills Strong knowledge of biology and genetics. Proficiency with Linux based operating systems as well as Windows. Proficiency in at least one of the programming languages, Python, C++ or Perl. Knowledge of relational databases is highly desirable. Skills in the bioinformatics programs commonly used in genomic analyses are required. Excellent experience with Word and Excel, or Open Office applications. Works with minimal supervision, responds to complex queries and is pro-active in seeking a solution. Thinks critically and actively participates in discussions. Has meticulous attention to details in conducting and documenting scientific data, maintaining data and laboratory notebook, publications and SOPs. Previous postdoctoral experience in genomics or bioinformatics is desirable but not required.
