Job Description:
You’re a software engineer with deep technical knowledge and experience. You’re passionate about designing scalable, secure, and reliable systems. You are comfortable designing and optimizing distributed systems and databases. You spend a large amount of your time thinking about topics such as relational databases vs nosql databases, strongly typed vs weakly typed languages, and how they impact both the development process as well as production reliability and operations.
Responsibilities:
Design and build scalable infrastructure specifically targeted to the cloud environment Evaluate the optimal technology for multiple domains, from databases to CDNs Work closely with computational biologists to understand domain-specific needs Identify scalability/reliability limits in both our system as well as 3rd party technologies Guide architectural decisions for our engineering teams Create architectural diagrams and document detailed system design details Translate customer and business needs into technical solutions Requirements:
Team-oriented, with strong communication skills Strong computer science background, including low-level systems and algorithmic complexity Demonstrated ability to pick up new technologies and quickly adapt to new paradigms Fluent in one of C++, Java, Scala, Python, and Node.js; familiarity with at least one other Experience using Linux and comfortable working in a Unix shell Experience and depth in databases, distributed systems, and networking 5+ years of core software development experience 3+ years of technical leadership Bachelors in Computer Science. Masters or Ph.D preferred Desired Skills and Experience:
Targeting cloud computing services, including Amazon EC2 and S3 at a minimum Designing systems built around interacting web services and associated standards like REST Designing and building secure and hardened systems Experience with containers, LXC or Docker Asynchronous programming and noSQL databases Debugging and profiling across the entire stack from the database to the client Linux system internals Experience with performance analysis and related skills enabling objective evaluation of tools and technologies Based in Mountain View, California, DNAnexus is experiencing rapid growth and is searching for the best talent to join our team.
