Job Description:
The Sync for Science (S4S -http://syncfor.science/) team at Harvard Medical School’s Department of Biomedical Informatics is seeking an experienced software developer to help build applications that will enable the sharing of electronic health records. Incorporated into several large projects S4S is facilitating an ecosystem where we will all be guardians of our own healthcare data. In addition to ownership S4S will allow individuals to share their healthcare data with healthcare providers and researchers.

One of the large research projects that the S4S team is participating in is All of Us (AOU). AOU aims to make medicine more precise by incorporating data on individual’s environmental exposures, lifestyle, genetics and more into the healthcare process. With a goal of enlisting over 1 million participants the project aims to establish a much more accurate and detailed view of the ranges of human health.

The Department of Biomedical Informatics is a leading hub for computational biology, translational bioinformatics, and precision medicine. Based in the Harvard Medical School Longwood Campus, the Sync for Science program is part of a vibrant community of scientists, physicians, and engineers whose goal is to advance the boundaries of knowledge. The working environment combines the best features of a startup (fast pace, flexibility, flat hierarchies) with those of one of the leading medical schools (excellent benefits, outstanding opportunities for learning, great resources, name recognition).

This role will focus on several important tasks:

  • Expanding adoption of the FHIR protocol by assisting new vendors in their implementations
  • Drive usage of the platform for research purposes by creating demonstrations and documentation
  • Enhancing our test suite which evaluates the completeness of a vendor’s implementation
The developer will use several standards in the healthcare IT and research industry including the SMART platform and the FHIR protocol in support of these projects. We code in Python (Flask) with UI technologies peppered in.

SMART incorporates OAuth2 and related technologies to add security to apps dealing with health information.
