Job Description:
Berkeley Lab’s Biological Systems and Engineering Division has an exciting Software Developer position within the Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI) Synthetic Biology Informatics Department. You will participate in the development and automated testing of new features for the Inventory of Composable Elements (ICE) and DNA DIVA software platforms. The position will also provide support to users of these software tools by responding to bug reports as well as user requests and feedback.
Specific Responsibilities:
Work with team members to design, implement, and/or enhance new features for the ICE and DIVA software platforms.
Implement unit and integration tests.
Document and track feedback from end users.
Additional Desired Responsibilities:
Contribute to user manuals and other documentation efforts for the software tools.
Present software development progress in group presentations.
Help research and contribute to solutions to manage the DIVA and ICE applications' front-end complexity.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of two years of study towards the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or related degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Familiarity with an object-oriented programming language such as Java.
Experience with Linux or other Unix-like operating systems.
Knowledge of user interface development languages and libraries such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Angular, and jQuery.
Effective teamwork and interpersonal skills with solid verbal and written communication.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
Practice with the full stack of web-based software applications.
