We are currently seeking a senior bioinformatics software development manager in Hyderabad, India for our cross-functional agile software development teams within our Data Science and Informatics group. Bottomof Form Duties / Responsibilities: The bioinformatics software development manager willwork within agile software development teams to create and enhance softwarebased on business-driven requirements. The successful candidate will workclosely with developers, business analysts, test engineers and product owners andmanage a team which architects, designsand implements rich multitier web solutions that are aligned with, andextend shared platforms and solutions; review user stories to determine alignmentwith project goals and dependencies on other projects, estimate relative effortrequired to ensure delivery dates, and ensures consistency across applications. The candidate will also promote a well-designed service oriented architecture on all of Pioneer'sinternal software as well as work with various informatics teams to supportadoption of these tools and services, and ensure teams are following standardsand maintaining quality. A critical aspect of this position requires beingflexible with meeting times, especially working with global teams acrossmultiple locations and time zones. - The position requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field with 12-15 years of experience in R&D based software development environment, preferably in agile projects.
- Experience in bioinformatics software development and custom analysis is required
- Experience in an environment where there are frequent changes to software as is typical of a research based environment
- Past experience in scripting languages (Python, Perl, Powershell, Bash) and object-orient programming (with Java/C++/C#). (basically programming and web based applications)
- Proven experience in Project management/Delivery management
- Experience in leading and managing a team to develop and optimize tools and HPC based workflows is an advantage
- Preferred experience in a linux/unix environment
- Ability to provide project, people and technical leadership and troubleshooting abilities
- Ability and desire to Motivate, mentor, and develop other developers and experts
- Good analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to understand and work on complex problems with diverse scopes
- Ability to build strong relationships with departmental leaders throughout the company, and contribute to leadership discussions.
- Ability to define, or help team define, a minimal viable product in accordance with product owner/BA/architect
- Proven skill in an object oriented language. (C#, Python, preferred) (Java, C++)
- Experience in Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
- Ability to perform hands-on work occasionally, i.e. demonstrating how to wireframe, write user stories, do demos, etc
- Good understanding of data modeling
- Good understanding of agile software development methodologies and processes.
- Track record of rapidly learning and incorporating new technologies into his/her skill set
- Ability to perform project management roles when needed, i.e. scrum master or similar
- Thorough knowledge of programming best practices and ability to promote them in team
- Experience in No-SQL technologies, Hadoop, AWS, ie big data an big computation
- Also, candidate should have an interest or experience in biology, genetics, or science in general
