Job Description:
J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) seeks a web developer for its Plant Genomics division. JCVI will consider highly qualified Software Engineers and Biofinformatics Engineers for this exciting position. The Software Engineer will help extend a web portal (www.araport.org) that serves a worldwide research community with funding from the National Science Foundation. The Software Engineer will interact with a distributed team of infrastructure collaborators to enable modular contributors from university labs around the world.
The Software Engineer will deploy mobile-compliant, Web 3.0 software incorporating JavaScript, jQuery, and HTML5. The Software Engineer will help develop RESTful web services and protocols. The Software Engineer will use technology including Apache web servers, Postgres databases, Drupal content management systems, open source development, Git code versioning, Jira issue tracking, and XML and JSON parsing. The Software Engineer will develop or update Java, Perl, and Python programs running in Unix virtual environments. The ideal candidate will have education or experience in most of these fields: biology and bioinformatics, web technologies, social media, database systems, scripting, software development and testing, configuration management, collaborative development, and problem solving.
