Job Description:
Purpose
HLI’s machine learning/big data team will design and engineer advanced programs performing mining, analysis and assessment of the most comprehensive human genome, microbiome, metabolone, proteome and phenotype data available. This will be achieved by leveraging and assessing the most advanced bioinformatics data gathered for the purpose of healthier aging and overall human wellness study. This is an exceptional opportunity for the Software Engineer who wants to learn and explore the new dimension of Big Data meets Genomic Science.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Apply data-mining, machine learning and/or graph analysis techniques for a variety of modeling and relevance problemsDesign and evaluate novel approaches for handling high-volume real-time data streamsCode using primarily C++, C, Python, Java, Scala in a Unix/Linux environmentConduct design and code reviewsInterface with Bioinformatics Scientists and Research ScientistsWork with large unstructured and structured data setsPrototype, develop and test new algorithmsMine existing empirical data sets to develop performance metrics for real-time as well as post-hoc useImprove the computational efficiency and scalability of various statistical models
Minimum Qualifications (Must have)
MS or PhD in Computer Science, preferably with a focus on Statistical Learning, Applied Statistics, Marketing Science, Operations Research. Graduates from other relevant scientific or engineering fields would also be considered.Strong background in one or more of the following: BIG DATA, distributive computing, heuristics, machine-learning, information retrieval, recommendation systems, social network analysis, or artificial intelligenceSoftware coding experience with C++ or Java/Scala, Python, in a Linux environmentStrong system building, problem solving and data structures experience
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates would ideally have experience with large scale systems and server-side technologiesExperience in a start-up environmentGlobal experience
Working Conditions
Open office environmentGlobal environment with multiple sites, which may require work beyond standard business hoursProlonged periods of sitting, standing, bending and kneelingOccasional travel may be required
