Basic Function and Scope of Position: As Illumina's Sr Bioinformatics Software Engineer, you will develop software that implements pipeline management tools, statistical algorithms, methods, and programs for analysis of genomic sequencing data and diagnostic products. The focus of the position is to translate statistical and mathematical modeling for genomic research and diagnostic product development into production grade software that operates within internal CLIA environment, as well as . The Sr. Bioinformatics Software Engineer will work closely with R&D scientists, software, database, and outside teams to deliver cutting edge bioinformatics solutions. Tasks and Responsibilities:   • Develop software for analysis of massively parallel signature sequencing (MPSS) genomic data • Work collaboratively with research scientists to implement statistical and data analysis solutions in production environment • Develop software for statistical/mathematical models to identify genomic variants such as chromosomal insertions, deletions, CNVs, or SNPs • Propose, design, and develop pipeline management tools for streamlining data processing of massive data sets • Propose, design, and develop infrastructure for maintenance of scientific research and development experimental data • Collaborate with scientists on the efficient implementation of new methods

Desired Skills and Experience

Preferred Educational Background:   Masters in Computer Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Physics or related field is highly desirable. Preferred Experiential Background: • Must have minimum of 5+ years of experience in a similar position including general experience in Life Sciences, Genomics or Pharmaceutical industries. • Experience with building / supporting / using bioinformatics pipelines, including common tools and formats such as bowtie, BWA, samtools, picard tools, bedtools etc. • Expert level knowledge of object-oriented design and development methodologies • Expert level knowledge of Java / C++ / C# or other object oriented languages • Expert level knowledge of Python • Excellent knowledge of Web application development and ORM methodologies • Knowledge of SDLC management and experience with software development in the medical device industry • Experience with statistical and mathematical software for analysis of genomic data • Experience with genomic analysis of sequencing data • Experience with statistical programming with R/Bioconductor • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision • Ability and willingness to work in a fast paced environment • Excellent time and project management skills.
