Job Description:
The Applications R&D Manager is responsible for developing new applications and customer collaborations for the Thermo Fisher Scientific Ion Semiconductor Sequencing Business. This role reports directly to the Genetic Sciences Applications R&D Leader and he or she will be expected to work with product marketing, commercial teams, and R&D organizations to develop applications and product collateral. The Applications R&D Manager is responsible for the identification of new applications and also executing collaborations using both internal and external resources. This position is based in South San Francisco.
Essential Functions:
This role will have responsibility for the development and commercialization of applications for Ion Semiconductor Sequencing Systems. Additional responsibilities are to include:
•Leading an R&D team to develop current and new applications for Ion Torrent Sequencing platforms including RNA Sequencing, Exome Sequencing, Amplicon Sequencing, Whole Genome Sequencing and novel applications for which Ion Semiconductor sequencing is suitable.
•Understanding the needs of current and future customers of Ion Torrent.
•Building collateral including application notes, webinars, slide decks, etc.
•Having the ability to give application talks at conferences, roadshows and internal commercial forums.
•Executing key customer collaborations targeting generation of high profile publications.
•Assisting Product Management in defining complete chemistry and instrumentation
•Managing collaborations with strategic partners, especially data analysis and data interpretation.
Minimum Qualifications (must have)
•A successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Genomics or related field with more than 5 years' experience.
•Experience with next generation sequencing systems is a must.
Preferred Qualifications (nice to have)
•Some industry experience is preferred.
