Job Description:
GNS Healthcare is the leader in health data analytics. We have built and maintain a suite of unique analytics capabilities, hosted in the cloud, and we apply these tools to interesting problems found in the pharmaceutical, care delivery, and managed care domains.

We are looking for an energetic and creative team member with background in computer science, math, statistics, bioinformatics, statistical genetics, or a related quantitative field with experience and knowledge in biological and informatics applications, and experience leading a team.

You would be responsible for oversight and support for a team of 2-4 project leads (based on your experience) applying GNS’ machine learning platform to large biological data sets. In this role, you would supervise the statistical modeling projects on your team as a PI (technical and managerial oversight, analytic conceptualization, contribute to written materials, etc). Deep hands-on technical skills are absolutely essential, with knowledge of standard bioinformatics pipelines (ideally in R), data processing, statistical modeling, machine learning techniques, etc, as you would be the second set of eyes on most projects and your insight would be instrumental to the projects’ success. Understanding of biological data is absolutely necessary – hands-on experience with a variety of omics data sets is required. All projects involve proprietary Bayesian tools; be prepared to invest several months becoming fluent if you don’t have a specifically Bayesian background.

Additional responsibilities include group forecasting, client messaging, business development support (writing of proposals, delivering presentations to prospective clients, etc), and professional development for your team (administrative, career oversight, guiding technical training of staff, etc). A number of our clients are out-of-state, and occasional travel (5%) is required for key client engagements.

This position will officially report to the Sr. Director of Precision Medicine at GNS healthcare and be based in Cambridge, MA.

You are:

Experienced manipulating large datasets in R (a strong plus), Matlab, or Python. Familiar with computational efficiency considerations. Conversant in the Unix environment and experienced in large-scale scientific computing.
Experienced with statistical inference and machine learning. Experienced with multivariate linear and GLM modeling. Bayesian inference a plus. Bayesian causal inference a strong plus.
Strong understanding of molecular biology, pharmacology, or medicine.
Familiarity with graphical modeling tools, mining, and validation techniques.
Interest in pushing the envelope in terms of computational technology and innovation.
Experienced at clearly communicating your work, its rationale, methods, results, and impact to outside parties through written manuscripts and presentations.
Able to demonstrate a strong publication record.

Requirements:

Ph.D. with 2-5 years of experience with concentration in life sciences, mathematics, physics/biophysics, statistics/biostatistics, bioinformatics, or computer science.
Exceptional, very experienced MS-level candidates will be considered.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Experience leading a team of 1-3 people for at least a year.
“Grace under fire”: this job involves juggling timelines and priorities from internal and external stakeholders while reaching for scientific success.
Collaborative spirit: you will likely join the strongest scientific team you have ever worked with. You should be ready for science in spades, open to learning from your co-workers, and willing to help others with insights based on your experience.
