The Center for Infection and Immunity (CII) - one of the world's most advanced academic centers for research in infectious disease surveillance, diagnosis and discovery has an immediate opening for an experienced individual for a Sr. Programmer Analyst position on its Bioinformatics team. The successful applicant will provide bioinformatics support for ongoing research in pathogen detection and discovery on projects related to infectious disease surveillance and discovery in humans and wildlife.

The candidate is expected to demonstrate the following skills:
At least four years of experience in writing pipelines and analysis of next generation sequencing data especially from Illumina platform. The candidate should also be well versed in data QC, mapping, de-novo assembly and BLAST as well as understanding of algorithms behind them. Basic knowledge of genetics and molecular biology as well as practical knowledge of major bioinformatics tools and resources: NCBI, UCSC etc. Knowledge of 16s rRNA data using Qiime for microbiome analysis is a plus. The position requires the ability to work in Unix environments consisting of high performance clusters. The candidate should have a good understanding of multi-threading tools (SGE, MPI), resource management and allocation. At least two to three years of academic or industrial experience working with scripting languages, such as shell, Perl, Python or R. Desired qualifications include: applied mathematics/statistics/biostatistics background. The candidate will perform other duties as assigned. The individual should be highly motivated; salary would be competitive and commensurate with experience. Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, or Computer Science and at least four years experience in bioinformatics.
