Job Description:
The Genomics Data Scientist needs to exhibit deep familiarity with the domain of informatics supporting clinical genomics. You will report into and work closely with the Head of Genomics to build state of the art, high-performance genomics tools, pipelines and research modules.

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate with have a mix of bioinformatics and life science experience spanning 7+ years. He/she must have worked in an environment building genomics pipelines and must show deep knowledge in the tools and technologies associated with genomics informatics. The preferred candidate will have strong familiarity with the issues surrounding the construction of clinical somatic pipelines. The preferred candidate will have some experience in a commercial and/or research environment with technologies supporting assay research and/or data management for genomic, proteomic, metabolomics and/or cancer-related initiatives. The candidate must be passionate about cloud/SaaS business models, big data analytics technologies, and have impeccable data science skills. They will anchor their decisions in strategy and defend them with data, influence, and an understanding of how to collaborate with the product teams, and thrive in a “startup-like” environment.

1. Deep knowledge of genomics data science and bioinformatics.

2. Outstanding oral and written skills.

3. Must be able to work with internals team and have credibility with external subject matter experts.

Detailed Description and Job Requirements :

Designs, develops and programs methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse “big data” sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for client services and product enhancement.

Interacts with product and service teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments. Develops and codes software programs, algorithms and automated processes to cleanse, integrate and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources. Identifies meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources; interprets and communicates insights and findings from analysis and experiments to product, service, and business managers.

Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. 8 years relevant work experience. BS/BA preferred.

Oracle is funding an internal initiative to enable collaboration and accelerate research around cancer. Our working title is ORACLE Cancer Research Cloud (OCRC). It is an extremely ambitious project that brings assets from across the corporation to provide researchers a private area for them to conduct their research. In exchange we will curate their data, anonymize it, and aggregate it into a massive data warehouse that can be accessed by all the players in the ecosystem (researchers in academic centers, pharma, payers, clinicians providing care, etc.). The intention of the initiative is to not only provide the infrastructure to make research more efficient, but also to provide the means to improve patient outcomes based on the most current available research.

We will be at the cutting edge of data acquisition, integration and curation for all types of data necessary to support research, clinical, therapeutics, etc. We will leverage assets from inside and outside to company to ensure the best options are available to our constituents.
