Job Description:
We are seeking a talented computational biologist that has experience in applying systems biology approaches to drug discovery and development and/or neuroscience disease research. The successful candidate will be experienced in the analysis of large-scale ‘omic data sets, particularly RNA-Seq and other types of large NGS data sets, and in the application of knowledgebase platforms and network analysis algorithms for the discovery of novel therapeutic drug targets, biomarkers, and compound mechanism of action. This position is part of the Computational and Systems Biology team that is integrated into Biogen’s Research and Early Development organization, which is actively engaged in multiple stages of Biogen’s drug pipeline. The candidate will work in a matrix with computational and systems biologists, and a rich community of neurologists, drug discovery chemists, high throughput screening scientists, biomarker scientists, and clinical development physicians and scientists. Post-graduate experience of 1-3 years working with biological and molecular data is highly desired. A deep understanding of experimental molecular biology and biochemistry, as well as modern high-throughput methods such as next generation sequencing and high dimensional cell sorting is required. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams is essential. Excellent communication and presentation skills are required, including the ability to translate the technical terminology of quantitative sciences into language understandable by scientists with expertise in other disciplines. A demonstrated track record of creativity, innovation, and delivery of real world value, including relevant peer-reviewed scientific publication, is required. Hands-on experience with the information technology aspects of data collection, organization, and integration, as well as the systems and tools required for data analysis is required. Bachelors and Ph.D. (or equivalent) in highly quantitative scientific disciplines and/or technology areas such as computer science, bioinformatics, systems biology, physics, engineering, mathematical biology, computational biology, or chemistry is required. - Experience with the application of chemical, genomic, and/or genetic screening strategies for the identification of genes or compounds from phenotypic screens, and to use functional ‘omic strategies to understand mechanism of action, is highly desired. Experience with large-scale public datasets, such as LINCS, CCLE, GEO, Array Express, as well as compound databases such as ChEMBL and PubChem, is desired.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams is essential.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills are required.
- Track record of creativity, innovation, and delivery of real world value, including relevant peer-reviewed scientific publication, is required.
