Bioinformatics Clinical Scientist Employer St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Location Memphis, Tennessee Salary Competitive Posted August 26 2016 Discipline Life Sciences, Bioinformatics Send Save Apply Responsibilities: We are seeking a PhD Bioinformatics Clinical Scientist to join our highly sophisticated and cutting edge clinical cancer genomics team. The successful applicant will officially be part of the department of Pathology but will embed within Computational Biology. As such, they will leverage their computational expertise to aid pathologists in clinical service and ongoing research studies. The SJCRH Computational Biology and Pathology departments are leaders in the analysis of pediatric cancer genome. We are a highly collaborative team who has developed state-of-art computational infrastructure, robust analytical pipelines, novel computational algorithms and deep experience in analyzing, managing, visualizing and delivering high-quality results.

 

The Bioinformatics Clinical Scientist will have an opportunity to work on clinical and research projects using the latest genome sequencing technologies including whole genome (WGS)/exome sequencing (WES), RNA-seq, targeted capture methods and whole genome methylation array. The specific areas of contribution focus on the development, translation and validation of cutting-edge molecular pathology and genomics assays for translational research and the clinical service. This may include projects on expanding the scope and functionality in our current integrative sequencing-based clinical assay, exploring feasibility and reliability of clinical-grade WES and RNA-seq on FFPE tumor samples, deep sequencing for IGH and TCR clonality, and development of pediatric tumor specific methylation signatures. Our ideal candidate is a team player, a critical thinker and a problem solver with a deep understanding of computational genomics and biology. We are especially interested in people with backgrounds in algorithm and pipeline development, data mining, visualization and cancer genomics.

Minimum Education: Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Bioinformatics or related field required

Minimum Experience: Ph.D which must include research related to bioinformatics (such as analysis of sequence data, microarrays, SNPs, image data, proteomics data, or biological pathways; development of algorithms, statistical methods, or scientific software);

--OR--

If Ph.D with no bioinformatics research, then two (2) years of pre-or postdoctoral experience in Computational Biology or Bioinformatics research is required

 

Experience with programming languages such as Python, Perl, or Java required
