We are seeking a Bioinformatics Research Scientist to participate in collaborative projects between the Department of Computational Biology and the laboratory of Dr. Mitchell Weiss in the Department of Hematology. The Weiss Lab focuses on mechanisms of normal and pathological blood formation using various approaches including analysis of primary human cells, patient derived iPS cells and Next Generation sequencing data from disease-associated pedigrees. Our work has been published in high impact journals such as Cell, Molecular Cell, Nature, Journal of Clinical Investigation and Blood. We are particularly interested in combining genome studies with laboratory testing to pinpoint the causes and genetic modifiers of blood diseases including sickle cell anemia and bone marrow failure syndromes. Experience in analyzing Next Generation Sequencing data, interpreting rare variants and examining epigenetic regulation is preferred. (CC)
Job Qualifications: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Bioinformatics or related field required.
Ph.D. which must include research related to bioinformatics (such as analysis of sequence data, microarrays, SNPs, image data, proteomics data, or biological pathways; development of algorithms, statistical methods, or scientific software).
OR
If Ph.D. with no bioinformatics research, then two (2) years of pre-or postdoctoral experience in Computational Biology or Bioinformatics research is required.
Experience with programming languages such as Perl, C, Python or Java required.
Experience in analyzing Next Generation Sequencing data, interpreting rare variants and examining epigenetic regulation is preferred.
