Job Description:
The Judith Sulzberger Genome Center at the Columbia University Medical Center is seeking a Staff Associate. This position will be in our next-generation sequencing laboratory. The lab is fast growing, and equipped with state-of-the-art high-throughput sequencing instruments.
We have extensive collaborations with investigators at Columbia University, including in personal medicine and cancer genomic. The successful applicant will thrive at the interface between biology, translational medicine and computational genomics, and will be involved with all aspects of next generation sequencing for a wide range of research projects, including whole genome, exome and RNA sequencing.

Minimum Degree Required:
Bachelors and/or higher
Minimum Qualifications:
All applicants MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered for the position.
Two years professional experience in research or a core facility required;
Technical proficiency necessary for achieving precise and consistent results;
Ability to accurately record data and keep a very neat, well organized and up to date notebook is essential;
The technician will have significant interaction with clients throughout a project, and will need to communicate with our users in an impeccable professional manner;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;organized and extremely detail orientated.
Project management experience;
Must be able to work independently in an orderly manner, and in accordance with all safety regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of molecular biology and genetics, excellent bench skills in DNA and RNA handling, and sequencing library construction. Previous hands-on experience in next generation sequencing of different platforms, especially Illumina, is strongly preferred.
Some knowledge in bioinformatics is strongly preferred.
