Job Description:
At the Department of Chemistry and Bioscience at Aalborg University a position as Staff Scientist (Laboratorieingeniør) is available from 1 August 2017 or soon thereafter. The Department of Chemistry and Bioscience consists of five sections of which three are situated in Aalborg with research and teaching in Biotechnology, Applied Chemistry and Biology & Environmental Science, one in Copenhagen on Sustainable Biotechnology and one in Esbjerg on Chemical Engineering. The position is located within the Section of Biotechnology with working place in Aalborg. The Department of Chemistry and Bioscience is looking for an independent, flexible, service minded and motivated Staff Scientist to support teaching and research within the field of bioinformatics who can documents excellent collaborative skills and experience in DNA sequence based genomics and/or transcriptomics. The department is conducting relevant research activities in mainly two areas, microbial ecology and plant science, why experience with one or both of these research fields is considered an advantage. The successful candidate will be responsible for the department's DNA sequencing platforms (currently Illuminia HiSeq and Oxford Nanopore Promethion). This includes administration of users (students as well as the departments scientific personnel), operating instruments, primary data analysis (making data ready for biological interpretation), instruction of students and department scientist in sample preparation and primary data analysis and service and maintenance of instruments and servers (updating scientific software etc. – not system level or hardware). Qualifications: You have a MSc degree in biotechnology or similar and relevant working experience. Relevant professional experience in the field, as well as any relevant further education will be considered. You must be able to document experience in the analysis of large scale genomics and/or transcriptomics data and preferentially also experience working sequencing equipment.
