Job Description:

Teaching Professor - Computational Biology Carnegie Mellon University Lane Center for Computational Biology, School of Computer Science USA-PA-Pittsburgh

Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a teaching-track position in Computational Biology, beginning July 1, 2015. This is a renewable, career-oriented position within the School of Computer Science, with an initial appointment for three years. We seek highly qualified applicants with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and the ability to teach at all levels in the curriculum. Preference will be given to candidates with experience with both laboratory and computational methods. Teaching-track appointments are typically at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor, with the possibility of promotion to the ranks of Associate Teaching Professor and Teaching Professor. None of these ranks are tenured; applicants seeking a tenure-track position at a research university are therefore not a good match for these positions.
Applicants for the position must have a Ph.D. in Computational Biology or a related field, and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Responsibilities include: teaching lecture and/or laboratory courses for undergraduate and graduate students in Computational Biology; serving as the academic advisor and contact person for undergraduate majors and minors in Computational Biology; serving as the academic advisor for MS students in Computational Biology; serving on departmental committees; aiding in the recruitment of students into the BS and MS programs; and maintaining and building connections to alumni and industry professionals. The ideal candidate would be equally comfortable teaching introductory programming, data structures or algorithms to experimental scientists and teaching a biology laboratory course to computer scientists.
