Job Description:
The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at the Columbia University Medical Center would like to recruit a technician to work in the laboratory of Dr. Andrew Teich. Dr. Teich's laboratory focuses on Alzheimer's disease, but through multiple collaborations the lab has projects that address other neurodegenerative diseases of aging. Dr. Teich is interested in hiring a technician who would spend his or her time analyzing primarily genomic data derived from both human and animal brain tissue. Dr. Teich's laboratory is a combined "wet-lab/dry-lab," and a variety of computational techniques are used to query genomic data that is both derived from and further informs the lab's experimental work. The job candidate would thus have the opportunity to work in an integrated environment and further his or her exposure to experimental "wet-lab" science. The PI is also the co-director of the New York Brain Bank, and this serves as a resource both for the laboratory's research as well as for the education of laboratory members in neurodegenerative disease biology. Proficiency with the Linux environment and experience analyzing data using Matlab, R, and Python is required. Prior experience working with genomic data is preferred. However, we are open to considering highly qualified candidates with a bachelor's degree in mathematics or computer science who may have minimal experience working with biological data but are highly motivated and meet the basic requirements listed above. Minimum Qualifications for Grade: Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Requires a bachelor's degree in mathematics or computer science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Proficiency with the Linux environment and experience analyzing data using Matlab, R, and Python. Preferred Qualifications - Experience working with genomic data preferred.
