Job Description:
The Department of Human Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at any rank to contribute to the research and teaching missions of the Department and the School. We seek outstanding applicants with strengths in bioinformatics and applied statistical genetics with a primary interest in using new genomic technologies to map, decipher, understand, and predict human disease. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vibrant collaborative research program, to attract and mentor graduate students, and to participate in graduate teaching. Opportunities for collaboration include the Precision Medicine Institute of UPMC and the Center for Research Computing. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist with the development of curricula that will enable our students and trainees to handle the data/informatics challenges of modern human genetics.

Qualifications:

Educational experience:

Candidates must have a PhD in Human Genetics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in bioinformatics and next-generation sequencing data analysis, and with teaching experience.

Knowledge. skills, and abilities:

A successful candidate is expected to have experience with a variety of genomic technologies, including next-generation sequencing data. Candidates should have experience with analysis in areas such as gene discovery, epigenetics, gene expression and regulation, sequence assembly and alignment, and homology detection, with scientific achievement demonstrated by publications. Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills, the ability to perform self-directed research, and excellent collaborative skills with unrelenting enthusiasm for genomic science. Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience in obtaining extramural funding, with experience developing or working in interdisciplinary research teams, and with a demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring.
