Job Description:
The Department of Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics (DCM&B) at the University of Michigan Medical School seeks outstanding applicants for 1 senior and 3 junior to mid-career faculty members to establish independent research programs that address emerging challenges in analyzing large, complex datasets. Innovative researchers in the areas of bioinformatics, computational biology, and advanced methodological development as applied to biomedical research are encouraged to apply. Several areas of programmatic interest will receive special consideration:

•Cancer bioinformatics

•Translational bioinformatics as applied to studies of complex diseases

•Biomedical data science methodology, including, but not limited to, natural language processing, machine learning, and visualization.

Joint appointments may be considered with the Michigan Institute for Data Science (MIDAS), the Comprehensive Cancer Center, departments of Human Genetics, Learning Health Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, partnering clinical departments, Computer Science; Schools of Information and Public Health; and other appropriate units. There are extensive computational resources and data science infrastructure available. Opportunities exist for faculty leadership roles to influence institutional priorities in clinical and biomedical informatics.

Requirements Successful candidates will have a PhD and/or MD degree, or equivalent, with post-doctoral training, in areas such as (but not limited to) biomedical data mining and machine learning; multi-scale integrative omics analysis; systems biology; natural language processing and ontologies applied to biomedicine; informatics related to healthcare delivery and clinical decision support; precision medicine and pharmacogenomics. Publications, funding record, a detailed research plan, collaborative experience, and demonstrated interest in graduate and post-doctoral education will be essential components of the application.
