The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine (JAX-GM) seeks a bioinformatics expert to develop and apply state-of-the-art methodologies in the study of genome structural variation and its contribution to human diseases, and vertebrate genome evolution.

As the successful candidate for this role, you will join the Lee lab in our brand new, fully-equipped JAX-GM facility in Farmington, CT, and have the opportunity to prominently contribute to cutting-edge research in human genetics, disease biology, and translational research. Active projects in the lab involve studies into structural variation in genomes and disease, single cell genomics, genome editing, cancer evolution/heterogeneity and development of new bioinformatics tools.

 

Required Skills

A Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computer science, biostatistics or any relevant field of study. Demonstrate the aptitude and bioinformatics expertise in the niche areas of genome variation and cancer genomics. Track record of publishing in high impact journals. Proficiency in programming (Python, Java, C++) and statistical analysis (R, MATLAB). Experience in UNIX like operating systems and high performance computing. Proven track record and enthusiasm for working in a dynamic high performance research team environment. Be creative and eager to learn new technologies and science. Preferences given to those living in Connecticut.

 

Desired Skills

Track record of developing algorithms and tools in the area of human genome variation and cancer biology. Experience with large datasets from big consortium projects such as TCGA/ICGC/ENCODE and 1000 Genomes. Experience in High Throughput Sequence (HTS) data analysis, microarray data analysis, data integration, evaluation of analytical tools and technology. Excellent communication skills including skills necessary to present at the conferences and workshops, write study designs and analytical methods.

 

Desired Experience

PhD degree 3+ years of experience in computer science, bioinformatics or biostatistics. Demonstrable participation in initiation/development of research projects and leading them to successful completion. Experience with applications for external research funding at any level will be a huge plus.
