Position Summary:

The Field Bioinformatics Scientist is responsible for providing a broad range of Bioinformatics applications support and training on Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) systems results and systems to Thermo Fisher Scientific Life Science Solution (LSG) customers, distributors and internal staff in Korea.

Major ResponsibilitiesResponsible for providing Bioinformatics (BFX) training to customers and distributorsSupport customers through the analysis of experimental results and development of analysis tools for specific applicationsPresent Bioinformatics issues and solutions to audiences with varying levels of experienceOperating and managing pipelines for data analysis and platform support across our regional NGS customersSupport sales in strategic pre-sales activity planning and delivery Bioinformatics capability presentation and demonstration Development of presentation depicting results of the NGS data analysis that may be utilized by marketing and product managementDevelop Bioinformatics customer training material (creation, duration, review)Develop custom scripts for specific customer requestsAdditional responsibilities may include:Development of software/web tools and databases to provide access to data and analysis resultsDevelopment of standard operating procedures, documentation, and scripts to generate custom reportsIntegration of diverse Bioinformatics toolsApplication of statistical, visualization and data mining toolsInteracting with external collaborators to obtain or provide dataCollect competitive intelligence on NGS and Bioinformatics and share internallySkills/Behaviors RequiredKnowledge and skills normally acquired through completion of a MSc or PhD in Computational Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Statistics, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field3-4 years of directly related experience on the qualifications mentioned above.Hands-on experience with relevant sequencing analysis toolsAn excellent understanding of genomic databases and their annotations (GenBank, RefSeq, ENSEMBL, dbSNP)Demonstrated computer skills including proficiency with a scripting language (e.g. Perl, BioPerl, Python) in a Linux and Windows environmentA good understanding of the biology behind genotyping, gene expression profiling, and genetic mapping, familiarity with the basis of nucleic acid structure and folding, and an appreciation of the use of statistical methods and mathematical models in the interpretation of biological data is highly desirable.Software and algorithm development skills (e.g. in C/C++/Java/Matlab), familiarity with statistical analysis tools (e.g. R, S-Plus, SAS), database development experience (Oracle, SQL, XML), related industry experience, and a record of publications are pluses.Required to travel within the region to carry out primary responsibilities.Ability to share information clearly and consistently with colleaguesSelf-motivated and engagedGoal-orientedAble to work effectively across functional groups to meet tight schedulesAble to work with minimal supervision while maintaining focus and productivityConsistently maintain a high level of energy and enthusiasmIs seen as a positive and motivating individual in the workplaceAbility to adapt quickly to changeExcellent time management skillsCustomer focusAbility to think and implement from a customer-centric perspectiveIntegrity and JudgementMaintain and promote social, ethical and organizational norms in conducting all affairsAbility to act responsibly and be trustedTo make well-reasoned and timely decisions, understanding of consequencesAbility to think and act effectively, acting for the greater good of the organizationLanguagesStrong command of English both written and spoken
