Two Postdoctoral Positions in Plant Genomics & BioinformaticsMichigan State UniversityDepartment of Plant BiologyUSA-MI-East Lansing Two Postdoctoral positions in genomics and bioinformatics are available in the Childs Lab (http://childslab.plantbiology.msu.edu) in the Department of Plant Biology at Michigan State University.

1. The first position is a service-related position with opportunities for personal research projects. The candidate will both generate and analyze next-generation DNA and RNA sequence data and will work closely with other researchers and computational scientists at Michigan State University. Anticipated projects include sequence variation analysis in natural and breeding populations, gene expression analysis, gene network identification, genome annotation and analysis, computational gene characterization and the creation of molecular phylogenies. Projects are expected to focus on both natural and agronomic plant species. The candidate is expected to contribute to the writing of research papers as well as act as the lead author for original publications.

2. The second position involves research on nitrogen-fixing plant species as well as microbial species associated with those plants. This work will involve close collaboration with the Friesen lab (http://friesen.plantbiology.msu.edu) at MSU. The candidate will both generate and analyze next-generation DNA and RNA sequence data and integrate these data with phenotype data. The candidate will perform transcript and genome sequence assembly, annotation and comparative analyses using next-generation sequence data in higher plants and bacterial species. Metagenomic and metatranscriptomic analyses from plant-associated microbial community data sets will also be conducted, and these data will be integrated with plant transcript and trait data. The candidate will also develop an ontology-based plant phenotype database. The candidate is expected to contribute to the writing of research papers as well as act as the lead author for original publications. For each position, a Ph.D. in biology, plant breeding, genetics, genomics or bioinformatics is required. Experience in genetics, genomics and/or bioinformatics is preferred but not required. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and an exceptional attention to detail are required. Scripting and computational skills are desired but not required. MSU provides competitive salary and excellent benefits for the position. Positions will be offered for one year with renewal based upon performance.
