Job Description:
The position is within the Computational Biology Unit (CBU), a center for bioinformatics linked hosted by the Department of Informatics. The researcher will work actively on development and support of software systems within bioinformatics and will in particular be central in the further development of LiceBase - a database developed to store genome related data on sea lice. LiceBase has been developed under the Sea Lice Research Centre and is one of the international services to be provided by the Norwegian Node of Elixir (pan-European infrastructure for bioinformatics). The researcher will also be involved in analysis of high-throughput data sets including NGS and proteomics data. The candidate will work closely with the service group at CBU. We are seeking candidates with extensive practical experience with development of web based software systems for bioinformatics and in particular with tools for bioinformatics databases and analysis tools. The position also requires extensive programming experience using relevant programming languages (such as Python, Perl, R, SQL) and Linux system administration. Furthermore, experience analyzing NGS data is a requirement. We seek a person with formal education in informatics and bioinformatics having good knowledge within molecular biology. Documented ability to collaborate with molecular biologists is a requirement. The candidate needs to be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. The appointee must have great capacity for work and an enthusiastic attitude. The position requires both the ability to work independently and good capabilities for collaboration across disciplines. Personal qualities will be of considerable importance. It is expected that the successful applicant actively contributes to ensure good project access and is able to contribute in several subject areas. He/she must conduct research on the projects that at any given time is financed. It is also expected that the successful applicant contributes with supervision of master's and PhD candidates as part of their research activity. Further increases will be made according to length of service in the position (grades 57-65).
