The Department of Plant Sciences in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Davis is recruiting a Professional Researcher in strawberry genomics and bioinformatics. This is a calendar year (12-month) non-tenure track position with research and outreach responsibilities. The appointee will be expected to conduct mission-oriented research and outreach in strawberry genomics and bioinformatics relevant to the California Agricultural Experiment Station.

The successful candidate will be an integral member and conduct research in support of the University of California Strawberry Breeding Program. We are seeking an ambitious intellectual leader to manage a scientifically diverse and collaborative research program focused on advancing the genetics of strawberry and the application of genomics and bioinformatics in strawberry breeding. The appointee will be expected to: (a) lead the application of genomic selection and genomics-enabled breeding strategies in strawberry; (b) design, organize, and direct research initiatives to develop, enhance, and expand genomic and bioinformatic resources for strawberry; (c) direct and supervise biocomputing analysts; (d) Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific journals as a senior author; (e) Prepare and present reports on research findings at scientific, administrative, and stakeholder meetings; (f) Secure funding to develop an independent research program.

Candidates with experience and demonstrated success in tackling difficult genomics and bioinformatics problems in complex genomes and a strong background in statistical genetics and bioinformatics are strongly encouraged to apply.

The position requires a Ph.D. in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or a related field, preferably with experience in applying quantitative and statistical genetic approaches in plant breeding; however, candidates with a strong academic track record and background in quantitative and statistical genetics, predictive analytics, and biocomputing in any organism should consider applying. The candidate must have a strong record of accomplishments and publications, excellent verbal and written communication skills, postdoctoral experience, and the ability to secure extramural funding and design and execute
innovative cross-disciplinary research.
