Position Description: A post-doctoral position is available focusing on development of bioinformatics tools, with an emphasis on applications in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics informatics.  The post-doctoral researcher will work with a team of informatics and software developers to refine, optimize and apply state-of-the-art computational tools for metabolomics data analysis, focusing on their implementation in the Galaxy framework for workflow management.  The researcher will also work with collaborating laboratories seeking to use these advanced computational tools in their research projects.  This position offers a unique opportunity not only to develop new approaches for bioinformatics analysis of metabolomics data, but to gain experience with the Galaxy framework, and to apply these to high impact biological projects.  This position will be supported primarily through an NSF-funded grant for development of advanced MS-based multi-omic informatics tools.

Desired Background:  A Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computer science, chemometrics, analytical chemistry or closely related field is required.  Experience with MS-based metabolomics and/or proteomics data analysis is preferred but not required. Demonstrated experience in contemporary computer programming (e.g. Python, Java etc.) is required, along with a proven track record of scientific publication and ability to work within a collaborative team.  Experience working with the Galaxy bioinformatics framework is a plus.

Start-date: Position available immediately

The position will be jointly supervised by Dr. Timothy Griffin and Dr. Adrian Hegeman at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities
